The foundation of my approach to counseling resides primarily in person-centered theory where the client is the driving force for change. Deciding to enter counseling is not only about getting help, but also about going on a courageous journey to find a new level of awareness, to challenge one’s thinking, and confront negative emotions. Although it requires hard work, I believe every individual has the resilience within themselves to overcome difficult emotions and traumatic experiences through the discovery of meaning and the instillation of hope. My role is to help clients find the strength to reach their potential, to become their best selves. Since every client is their own unique human being, I may also incorporate a variety of theoretical approaches from Cognitive Behavioral Theory, Solution-focused theory, the tenets of mindful awareness, and spirituality. My educational background and experience reflect my personal theory of counseling. I am a 2020 graduate of the Clinical Mental Health Counseling Master’s program at Siena Heights University and a 2011 undergraduate in Psychology from Michigan State University. My greatest experience so far lies in working with children and adolescents, creating environments where they can feel safe and empowered.
